Let us look at what we have done.

“It is time for us to reflect on the past year, and it’s also time for us to plan ahead. To start with the end on mind. A muslim need to reflect. This is not a moment of celebration but it’s a moment of reflection. We need to reflect on what we did in the past year and we need to look into our sins and repent to Allah s.w.t. Umar Ibn Khattab says,

Haasibu anfusakum qabla antuhasabu, wazinu a’malakum qabla antuzamalakum.

Hold yourself accountable before you’re held accountable, and weigh your sins before there are weighed for you. Lets look at what we have done. Don’t forget it because Allah s.w.t. won’t forget it. Everything is written down.

Al-Anbiya’:47

Even if it’s the equivalent of a grain, Allah s.w.t. will bring it and place it on the scale.

Al-Zalzalah: 7-8

If you do an equivalent of one single atom of good, you will be rewarded and one single atom of evil, you’ll be held accountable for it. So let’s hold ourselves accountable for the past year. And then let’s plan ahead.

We cannot afford to be a heedless ummah. The greatest disease is ghuflah. We cannot be a ghuflah. We need to wake up and you have to know, what you want to do. What your objective is? A muslim cannot just live for the sake of living and make it through the day. That’s not appropriate for a muslim.

Allah s.w.t. has said that that is the style of cattles, not human beings.

Al-A'raf:179

The one who do not think, do not hear and do not see, Allah s.w.t. says they are like cattles, and then Allah s.w.t. says, nay they are even worse. Because you can’t expect more from cattle.

We have to know what we want. What is it exactly that you’re going to do for the religion of Allah. Count ahead…" Anwar al-Awlaki
